Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications will start offering 4G service using Reliance Jio network to its CDMA customers in select circles at a starting price of Rs. 93 per 10 gb.
RCom has written to the Department of Telecom that it will be using Reliance Jio’s 4G network to provide 4G data service to its CDMA customers from next week. Only their existing CDMA customers who upgraded to 4G technology will be able to use 4G Data services.
As per the data shared by the company with DoT , over 90 percent of RCom’s customers have opted for the offered upgrade to 4G services, , of the 8 million RCom’s CDMA customers.
RCom will provide 10 GB of 4G data at the starting price of Rs. 93 and will vary between Rs.93 to Rs.97 depending upon circles where it has licenses to operate. These rates are almost 94% less than its competitors including Reliance Jio.
According to the letter to DoT, RCom will launch 4G data service in 12 circles – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, UP East and West, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
The company plans to offer 4G data service using Jio’s network on a pan-India basis by starting expansion in 6 more circles( Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan) by mid- july but only after DoT’s approval. It also plans to expand on a pan-India basis by mid-August.
RCom has paid Rs 6500 cr to use 850MHz band spectrum across 20 circles, as per the spectrum sharing agreements with Jio.It will be interesting to see who offers more high speed data at affordable prices in comparison with each other in the near future.
